Dive World Austin prides itself on small classes to give our students a premium, personalized experience. ​Our open-water classes are capped at a maximum of six students. Our pros are professional, approachable, and knowledgeable - just what you need to put you at ease during your training!

To enroll in a PADI Open Water Diver course (or Junior Open Water Diver course), you must be 10 years old or older. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with scuba diving is required!

What will I learn?

Learn the basic theories and best practices of scuba diving with the online academic portion of the course (PADI eLearning).

Put theory into practice when you jump in our heated, indoor pool - the confined water sessions.

Complete your open water dives (typically at Lake Travis or Spring Lake).

Dive World Austin provides scuba equipment as rental equipment - this includes a regulator, buoyancy control device (BCD), weights, and scuba cylinders, wetsuits, and hood/gloves.

Entrance Fee to Mansfield Dam Park, $5.00 per person cash only, per day for the weekend of Open Water Certification Dives (2 days).

Entrance Fee to Spring Lake in San Marcos, $40 per day.

Each diver must have their own own mask (tempered glass) and snorkel comob, fins, and boots. Please do not buy online - buy from Dive World Austin and get 10% student discount and a custom fitting to ensure a proper fit which is critical to success in your training.

*Note: An additional $225 fee is required for 10 and 11-year-old students as we must restrict class size to four students to maintain PADI standards.

Make time for homework! Enroll at least one week prior to class. This will allow for adequate time to complete all training materials.

PADI eLearning means the classroom/academic portion of work is completed in the comfort of your own home, at your own pace using study tools that integrate text, images, and video into interactive learning experiences through a mobile device or computer.
After completing the eLearning coursework portion of certification, choose one of three options to complete your practical training sessions (confined-water training and open-water training).

Course manual for pre-work plus classroom time

This is a classic approach to conducting development training in the dive center's classroom using hard copies of the training materials. Our weekend classes allow you to complete your scuba certification in two consecutive weekends. The first weekend consists of classroom and pool instruction (8:00 am - 5:30 pm). On the second weekend, you head to the open water on Lake Travis for your open water training dives (8:00 am - 2:00 pm).

10 and 11-year-olds will be assessed a $225 upgrade charge due to class size limitations for this age group.
Read the Diver Medical Form carefully to determine if you need a physician's approval to participate in this course.
