Dive World Austin prides itself on small classes to give our students a premium, personalized experience. ​Our open-water classes are capped at a maximum of six students. Our pros are professional, approachable, and knowledgeable-simply the best!  

 

To enroll in a PADI Open Water Diver course (or Junior Open Water Diver course), you must be 10 years old or older. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with scuba diving is required!

What will I learn?

  • Learn the basic theories and best practices of scuba diving in a classroom session

  • Put theory into practice when you jump in our heated, indoor pool 

  • Head out to Lake Travis (15 mins away!) to complete your open water dives.

What is included?

  • All Training Materials (eLearning or traditional course manual, PADI logbook, student file folder, PADI sticker, and Blue zipper pouch. Must pick up and complete ALL training materials BEFORE the start of class

  • Instructor Fees

  • Pool Fees

  • Dive World Austin provides basic scuba equipment including a regulator, buoyancy control device (BCD), weights, and scuba cylinders

  • Wetsuits, hoods, and gloves are provided depending on the season and water temperature.

Not Included

  • Entrance Fee to Windy Point Scuba Park; $15.00 per person, per day for the weekend of Open Water Certification Dives (2 days). 

  • Entrance Fee to Spring Lake in San Marcos; $40 per day. (Some courses will be designated for dives at Spring Lake with three dives at Spring Lake on day one and one dive at Windy Point on day two)

  • You need to provide your own mask (tempered glass), fins, boots, and snorkel-10% student discount available in store

*Note:  A additional $200 fee for 10 and 11-year-old students will be added due to the class size being limited to only four students.  

Make time for homework! Enroll at least one week prior to class. This will allow for adequate time to complete all training materials. 

Private Courses

Description: includes eLearning materials, and a custom schedule for 1-6 individuals.

 

Entrance fees, mask, snorkel, fins, and dive booties are not included in the course fee.

Open Water Practical

If you already purchased your course from PADI.com, you can complete your certification by scheduling your practical sessions (both confined-water and open-water dives) with Dive World Austin. Contact the store to schedule.

This is an excellent option for divers who want to minimize their training time on vacation! We will prepare you for your open-water certification dives wherever your travels take you! Complete your academics and confined-water (pool sessions) with us and finish your open-water certification at your dive destination. A custom schedule means we work with your schedule and prepare you for open water cert. dives on a future trip!

Traditional Open Water

Two consecutive weekends

BOOK ONLINE

This is a classic approach to conducting development training in the dive center's classroom using hard copies of the training materials. Our weekend classes allow you to complete your scuba certification in two consecutive weekends. The first weekend (or two days if a weekday course) consists of classroom and pool instruction (8:00 am - 5:30 pm). On the second weekend (or final two days if a weekday course), you head to Windy Point Park on Lake Travis for your open water training dives (8:00 am - 2:00 pm).

BOOK ONLINE

PADI eLearning means the classroom/academic portion of work is completed in the comfort of your own home, at your own pace using study tools that integrate text, images, and video into interactive learning experiences through a mobile device or computer.

 

After completing the eLearning coursework portion of certification, choose one of three options to complete your water sessions which include both confined-water training and open-water check-out dives.

Attend four consecutive-day water sessions

(pool and lake)

CHECK AVAILABILITY

Description: Days one and two: confined-water dive training. Days three and four: open water dive sessions. The store will notify you of class times upon registration. Typically scheduled in the summer and over the holidays. (ex. Memorial and Labor Day weekends)

10 and 11-year-olds will be assessed a $200 upgrade charge due to class size limitations for this age group.

Read the Diver Medical Form carefully to determine if you need a physician's approval to participate in this course. 

What's Next? 

After Open Water certification, take PADI Advanced Open Water and/or Rescue Diver. Or, work on honing your skills with a specialty dive course.
