Not ready to pay for everything at the same time? You can always sign up for eLearning and your Open Water practical separately. 

Step one:

Sign-up for the Advanced Open Water Diver eLearning course, choose Dive World Austin as your dive shop.  ELearning price includes online training, assessments, and certification card.


Step two:

When you're ready, contact us and register for the practical training portion to finish out the course. You can schedule the practical portion now or at any time - eLearning does not have to be complete to schedule the practical portion. Practical price includes course materials, review, and dives with your Dive World Austin instructor.


Rescue Diver courses are both eLearning and Traditional. Check with us to determine which method will be taught for your specific course. 

Course Layout: 

  • Friday, 6 pm, meet at Dive World Austin to go over the knowledge reviews and practice a scenario in the pool.  

  • Saturday/Sunday, 8 am, Meet at Windy Point park for two training dives each day.

  • Meet times are approximate and will be confirmed with a class email 10 days prior to your course. 

Note: Do your homework! You’ll need to enroll at least one week prior to class. This will allow you adequate time to complete all training materials. 


The PADI® Rescue Diver course will change the way you dive – in the best possible way. Learn to identify and fix minor issues before they become big problems, gain a lot of confidence, and have serious fun along the way.

With your instructor


The water training sessions are serious fun. You'll practice handling scenarios such as a leg cramp and assisting a tired diver by role-playing with other students and your instructor.

  • Prerequisites: Adventure Diver/Junior Adventure Diver (or qualifying certification) with completed Underwater Navigation Dive; EFR Primary and Secondary Care training (or qualifying training) within 24 months

  • Time commitment: 

    • Pre-work/academics approx 8 hours

    • Friday night pool time (6:00-10:00 pm)

    • Saturday/Sunday-two dives each day

  • Minimum age: 12 years or older

What is included?
  • Rescue diver  Adventures in Diving Manual, Visual Signalling Device (Safety Sausage), Audio Signalling Device (Whistle), Multipurpose Data Carrier (slate), Continuing Education Dive Log, PADI sticker, DAN sticker, Student File Folder.

Not Included
  • You must provide your own Mask, Snorkel, Fins, and Dive Booties. (10% student discount available in store!)

  • You will need basic scuba equipment including a regulator, buoyancy control device (BCD), Wetsuits, Hoods, and gloves (will be needed depending on the season and water temperature). Rent from Dive World Austin for a 50% discount. 

  • Entrance Fee to Windy Point Scuba Park; $15.00 per person, per day for the First day of class. (1 day only)
